Welp, IT'S THE WEEKEND! :D

Yesterday we had auditions. They were as fun as- well, more fun than- I thought they'd be. Had some seriously good laughs watching each other! For those of you who don't know, here's how our auditions go. Pretty standard procedure, tho this is also more specific to just yesterday:

(School ended at 2.17, and then auditions were to start in the auditorium at 2.30)

At 2.30, we, the drama class, are all in there chattering away, trying to calm our nerves. After some warmups and prayer, we started. Most of the people stay in their seats, and a few are called to go backstage and prepare to come out one by one. The first person goes, the second person goes, and another person from the audience (seated auditioners) is called to go and wait backstage. Then the next person goes, and another one's called up. Always 2 people backstage while one person's out there performing.

The performance: you deliver the monologue you've prepared. The judges may cut you off early, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Then they'll ask you to do some other things. For me, first I had to "do your monologue again, but this time act like you're climbing a ladder while saying it." And then, "okay, once more, and this time be REALLY ANGRY throughout the whole thing."

Some of my friends had to do stuff like pretend they were a baby giraffe that had just been born (HAHA =D), or pretend they were a bird n flapping their wings while talking, or improvise the "other person's" side of the conversation (opposite of their monologue). About 25 ppl or sooo....

After everyone had gone, we had a 10 minute break.

Next, is the script reading part of the auditions. The judges send us up on stage, like, "Okay... I want Joanna as Beth, RuthAnne as Meg, and Sam as Laurie." Some excerpts from the script are provided, and those people go up there, and perform the scene. Then the judges will call different people to read that scene, swapping them around, swapping them on or off stage, etc etc. This is to see things such as how naturally an actor gets into a particular character, to judge who interacts best with who, and lotsa other stuff. This part took quiiiiite a long time.

Auditions ended at 6.10. 3 and a half hours (plus break). Wheww.

Anyway, the outcome is, Yes, I am Jo. =) I'm very happy with that, though at the same time I feel bad for my good friend who wanted the same part. (Cuz we're both of the same tomboy breed. XD) Yeah... that's the part of auditions I don't like. All the mixed emotions.. having to see your friends [trying not to show that they're] sad if they didn't get their desired role... sigh. But I've just been praying that such things will not drive us (not just my tt friend and I, but other disappointed ppl also) apart, but instead be an opportunity for us to show each other understanding, sympathy, and acceptance that will bring us closer together.

I've wanted this Jo role for 2 years... ever since sometime back in 8th or 9th grade when Mrs Sheila (drama teacher's wife) said to me, "Do you know the story called Little Women? No? Oh, you've heard of it? Oh okay, well, if we ever do that play here in ICS, there's this character called Jo, that I think you're a lot like and would do well as."

That idea has grown on me ever since. And now that I've got the part, I'm going to work SO hard, and be this character SO WELL, that I will do those 2 years of anticipation full justice, and I won't let Mrs Sheila, or Mr Philip, or myself, or my parents, or anyone who'll watch the play, down. LET'S DO THIS! :D

Since dad started helping out with drama class, offering feedback and extra acting tips... I've found that WHOA, he knows a LOT about drama! I'm so surprised! O_O Well anywho anyhow, THAT'S GREAT FOR US, cuz he'll help us take our drama one (or a few) steps further than we have been doing. Woop!

Today, school was pretty regular. I spend the whole day looking forward to drama at last period. It was the COMMENCEMENT OF MY 2 YEAR DREAM. =D This class, and the next few practice sessions was/will be read-throughs... just reading through the script. But today what made it fun was that instead of us just sitting in a circle and reading, we were made to walk through the scene as well, so we got to gesticulate and exaggerate and jump about all we wanted. ^^ Suits me fiiiiine~.

After school we had band prac for this week's yth sunday in church. Having finished with that (tho we still gonna have to meet at church way early this Sun to prac more, cuz Nate and Peace had to leave early for vball practice), I came home. We watched Iron Man! Usually I'm decidedly more into drawing human characters, creating personalities, making up strange creatures... more "alive" stuff. But once in awhile, after watching things like Iron Man... or Transformers... I feel that there's a spark of interest for the mecha genre, that could be fanned into flame. :] Mb I'll be exploring that next. ^^

This weekend doesn't seem to have much homework, so I feel a lot... lighter. WooooOOoooOooOooo. ^^ Almost like a physical weight is off my shoulders. But now with the Little Women play started, I'm looking really forward to each day, each week of school. Cuz M, W, and F we have drama class, while M, Tu, Th, we have after school prac. So that more or less means:

EVERYDAY DRAMA!
SHIOK ONLY SIAAAAAAAAA! :D
